    Values Congruent Environments

  • Colony creates a safe and healthy social environment.

The colony worked variously to ensure every social event we hosted was in a safe and healthy environment. We worked with a number of university officials and any partnering organization to ensure all paperwork was properly filled out and promptly submitted for review. We also had regular correspondence with Mr. Fred Dobry, the Sigma Nu Director of Risk Reduction, to ensure all events would be in compliance with the Sigma Nu Risk Reduction policy.

Before every event the colony followed a set of procedural guidelines to fill out the proper paperwork as forth by the university and headquarters to prepare for each event. Below are copies of each formed that was filled out, submitted, and filed before each event.

    UL Third Party Vendor contract

    FIPG Third Party Vendor Checklist

    Bylaws:

"E. The Sentinel shall attend any alcohol education programs hosted by the University, IFC, Greek Council, or any other related event the Commander deems necessary."

"G. The Sentinel shall work with the Social Chairman and Sigma Nu Director of Risk Reduction to ensure all events comply with the Risk Reduction Policy."

    -Article Five, Section Ten

"D. The Social Chairman shall ensure that any and all paperwork for any social event is properly submitted to Sigma Nu Headquarters and to the University."

    -Article Five, Section Thirteen

"D. The Committee shall be responsible for ensuring that each alcoholic event has at the proper amount of sober monitors to ensure the safety of everyone attending the event.

    1. A sober monitor is defined as a brother who has agreed not to consume any alcoholic beverages throughout the entire duration of a Sigma Nu event."

    -Article Six, Section Eight

    Letters:

"While serving as Kappa Delta President, we had a social with Sigma nu, and before I made it to the Office of Greek Affairs, I received a phone call stating that Sigma Nu had turned in everything necessary for the event and all that needed was my signature. I was amazed!"

Colony Candidates complete the Risk Reduction session from LEAD Phase I.

The colony ensures that each candidate completes all sessions from LEAD Phase I, including the Risk Reduction session. The session consisted of a presentation from the Sentinel and Risk Reduction officer regarding the Sigma Nu Risk Reduction policy, along with pertinent information about dealing with a situation and on campus resources available to candidate for any help they may need.

Colony sponsors one session from the Risk Reduction and Personal Development modules of All-Chapter LEAD each semester.

The colony completed the Alcohol Abuse session from Module C Risk Reduction Session 1. During the session, the colony was exposed to the facts and figures of alcohol abuse and effects it has on family, friends, and oneself. It also extensively explain options for help and who to turn to for professional guidance on campus. Facilitator notes were used by the LEAD Chairman as well as research on the disease from various on campus and off campus sources.

Colony sponsors one program related to wellness or diversity with another student organization on campus.

The colony prides itself on the relationships it has developed over the past year and has been able to hold successful events campus wide because of such relationships. Because of timing and logistical complications, we were not able to host our Sexual Assault Awareness Seminar as planned.

However, this semester we have taken the information we have learned along with the contacts we developed and anticipate a very successful and informative event. We are going to be working in conjunction with the University Police, UL Student Health Service, and UL Counseling and Testing to bring in speakers to discuss ways for students to protect themselves from Sexual Assault as well as ways to protect others from this terrible act of violence.

Colony has not been in violation of The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., or the Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines or university policy in the last year.

With all the time and work spent on preparing for all of our events, the colony is proud to say that we have not violated The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, the Risk Reduction Policy, or any university policy since it's beginning.

"The colony had not violated any UL policies in the past year and has continued to keep all paperwork in accordance with those policies."

    -Dean Tucker Sappington

    Assistant Dean of Student

    Fraternity Advisor

"I am writing to confirm that the Eta Nu Colony at University of Louisiana –

Lafayette has not had any confirmed violations of the Fraternity’s Risk Reduction

Policy and Guidelines during the course of their colonization."

    -Fred Dorby

    Director of Risk Reduction
